JB must apologise to Malawians—Chakwera
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera says President Joyce Banda must apologise to Malawians for the plunder of public resources and claimed that her government’s reaction on cash-gate is cosmetic.
At a press conference at MCP headquarters in Lilongwe shortly after arriving from US and South Africa, Chakwera stated that the government has failed to act swiftly on the matter.
“Instead of apologising and taking responsibility for these failures; theft of taxpayers money and disrespect for hard-working Malawians — President Joyce Banda and her government are celebrating these failures as a great fight against corruption.
“The President and her government continue to create excuses. So far, steps taken to address this crisis are largely cosmetic. The cash-gate is now being referred to as a breakthrough by the Joyce Banda government. Looting of public funds and protecting those responsible is one of the greatest crimes any government can commit against its citizens,” explained Chakwera.
He stated that despite more arrests being made, enough is not being done in dealing with the problem.
Said Chakwera: “This is not a matter to be washed away by debates in Parliament and newspaper articles or press statements. It is a matter that requires swift action. Today, I am sad to say no such action has taken place.”
She should simply resign. We did not elect her and it was Bingu’s choice.

2014 is indeed too far away to wait for this wise man to come into power. There is no sane Malawian who would vote for either PP or DPP come 2014 any way becoz they all have blood on their hands as far as the cashgate crisis is concerned. We need some one new with clean hands to re-investigate the whole issue. No cover ups. Malawians have suffered for far too long, no medicine in hospitals, no materials in shools while some greedy politicians are keeping millions in safe boxes, pillow cases and in car boots. How is come any political party that comes into power within a year they have over 200 cars? where does the money come from?
I agree with the views by Dr Lazarus Chakwera. It is only PP as beneficiaries of the looting who are celebrating and making noise that the president is doing something when in actual fact she is not. Are you not surprised that it is only the PP that continue to refer the saga to corruption when it plain theft and looting of resources. Why is the president not declaring her assets and gifts she has received from Mr Lutepo, Mphwiyo and Chibvunde? How about monies she is depositing into JBF? She is only paying lip-service. I suppose the issue is complex for her ability to solve it and the honourable thing would be to admit and step aside. Bravo Dr Chakwera, you have my support.

Did you want to say Chakwera is a nyau hater? Because I can’t understand how he can be a nyau heater. By the way we do not expect him to love everthing that each individual Malawian loves thats impossible because we are all different. We have had a moslem president before in a christian dominated country what matters is that the president while carrying out his presidential duties should respect and protect the rights of all Malawians regardless of whether he likes it or not. Thats democracy.
