JBF tourney reaches district champs phase

Constituency teams that emerged champions at district level in the K100 million (about $238 095) Joyce Banda Foundation (JBF) Inter-Constituency football and netball tournaments are now competing among themselves.

However, tournament coordinator Wyson Sumaili said they are yet to complete identifying champions in seven districts.

“Time is not on our side, that is why we have decided to proceed with the district champions’ phase,” said Sumaili.

On Sunday, Chikwawa Central beat Nsanje Lalanje 11-10 on post-match penalties after settling for a 1-1 draw in regulation time. In netball, Chikhwawa Central beat Nsanje Central 18-7.

Mwanza Central thrashed Blantyre North East 3-0 whereas in netball BT North East beat Mwanza Central 50-31.

Lilongwe City Centre beat Lilongwe Msozi North 5-4 on post-match penalties after tying 1-1 in regulation time whereas in netball, LL Msozi North beat LL City Centre 28-19.

According to the tournament’s deputy coordinator, Robert Munthali, Nsanje Lalanje were slated to face Mwanza Central in football whereas Chikhwawa Central were to take on BT North East on Monday.
