Malawi Under-20 national football team has beefed up its squad with three players ahead of tomorrow’s international friendly match against Zambia at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

According to the team’s manager Aubrey Nankhuni, the new additions are the 2017 Masters Security Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League Premier Division golden boot winner Tony Biyasi, Laurent Banda and Sam Gopani.

The Junior Flames will use the international friendly match to prepare for their African Cup of Nations (Afcon) Under-20 qualifier against Angola next month.

“We have decided to beef up the squad after assessing our flaws as we faced Swaziland [now Eswatini] in the Afcon preliminary round a few weeks ago. We are confident that these three players will add more value to our attacking mentality the continental competition,” Nankhuni said.

He said Biyasi has been roped in as a potential replacement for striker Abel Mwakilama, who passed on last week in Portugal where he was playing for a lower division side Sporting Clube de Esmoriz.

The new recruits will also help to fill the gap created by star forward Peter Banda, who is reportedly with South African outfit Orlando Pirates in Brazil as part of his trials.

Banda will not be available for tomorrow’s match and the Afcon encounter against Angola during the weekend of May 11 and 12 in Lilongwe.
