Kachama is new IG
President Peter Mutharika has appointed LextenKachama, former deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police responsible for administration as the new IG of the Malawi Police Service (MPS).
Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) George Mkondiwa confirmed the appointment in an interview with The Nation last evening.
He said the appointment is with immediate effect.
Kachama replaces Paul Kanyama who announced his sudden resignation at a news briefing on Friday, citing health grounds, three months after replacing Lot Dzonzi
Before being appointed deputy IG, Kachama served in several positions in the police service, the latest being that of a commissioner responsible for inspections, audit and performance for the Southern Region.
Kachama was appointed DIG operations in June 2014 replacing Nelson Bophani.
