Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare Anita Kalinde has commended Timeline Communications and Antelope Multimedia for organising a gospel show which will bring Christmas smiles to orphans across Malawi.

The minister waxed lyrical during the Gospel Greats concert at Sheaffer Marque in Lilongwe on Sunday. She also dipped into her purse and donated K100 000 to the cause envisioned to benefit one orphanage in each region.

“I am happy to be part of the crowd to help the two media consultants raise funds for the needy. As government, we are happy with this initiative and we want to be part of it because it will benefit orphans. I hope you will invite me again when donating to orphanages,” said the minister.

The show delayed by about an hour, but the performances were fitting. Among others, Marvellous Deeds stirred excitement with their Mfumu Mukhale before Peter Uyu Mlangeni unleashed his new track Ndi Chisomo.

Kalinde popped in just when Mlangeni was winding up his set, but organisers had to wait for Allan Chirwa of Kufanana Naye fame to perform before putting the show on pause for speeches.

When the jive resumed around 4pm, fans danced with Maadivazala duo of Vincent Kadzakumanja and Evance Watsopano Mereka as well as Limbani Simenti, Marching Soldiers and the top-selling Great Angels Choir.

The show was sponsored by Airtel Malawi, Air Malawi, Sana Cash & Carry, 7-Eleven, City Mall Supermarkets and Blockbuster Electronics.

In a raffle draw, Miriam Galion, 20,  won a return air ticket to South Africa, Stuart Nokotwa pocketed K50 000 from Airtel Money and Mervis Sisya bagged a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. Seven others received shopping vouchers.

One of the organisers, Tamara Chafunya, thanked the firms and patrons for their support. She said they will donate 50 percent to three orphanages which are yet to be identified.
