Mayamiko Kalizang’oma put up a five-under-par performance on the Country Club Limbe (CCL) greens on Saturday to win this year’s last-but-one NBS Monthly Mug and make it into the Winner-of-Winners Championships slated for November 23.

The handicap 20 golfer gorged himself on a birdie and eight pars on the way to his first glory in the stableford format contest where he outmanoeuvred a field of 67 golfers with net 67.

However, the NBS Bank service centre manager’s prize went to lawyer John Gift Mwakhwawa because Kalizang’oma was one of the sponsors. Mwakhwawa had been counted out to second position by Kalizang’oma.

Third-placed John Sisya got the second prize while fourth-positioned Milton Macheka received the third prize.

“I was in a perfect mood and the greens played well for me today. I put an effort to win this title; so as a sponsor, I will give up the prize, but I will keep the trophy as a souvenir,” said Kalizang’oma.

Carol Banda was the champion with net 72 in the ladies’ section which had four contestants.

Gilbert Chirwa, Chrispin Ng’oma, Denish Patel and John Magombo received K3 000 each for being eight two-club winners.

NBS Bank deputy chief executive officer Gilford Kadzakumanja appreciated the good patronage at the event. He promised to make the forthcoming two-in-one contest even more exciting.

“It is always a pleasure to host this tournament here. We are grateful for the support we get from the golfing fraternity. We have created a good rapport and we promise to make the impending Winners-of-Winners event worth their game,” said Kadzakumanja.
