Polokwane City FC—where Malawi’s striker Esau Kanyenda plays—lost 3-1 to Robert Ng’ambi’s Platinum Stars in the South Africa Absa Premiership on Wednesday.
The 11th positioned City succumbed to Eliezer Rogers brace and a Ndumisa Mabena’s strike at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
However, Kanyenda scored a consolation goal, which is his fourth this season just three behind leading Malawian scorer Atusaye Nyondo of University of Pretoria (UP).
Nyondo was unable to score when UP lost 2-1 to Amazulu also on Wednesday.
Still in South Africa, Coach Kinnah Phiri saw Free State Stars rise to position nine from 12th.
Moeketsi Sekola’s lone strike against Bloemfontein Celtic was enough to move stars clear of relegation danger.
Celtic, who had Frank Gabadinho Mhango in full action, are sixth.
In other games, Malawian Robin Ngalande came on the 90th minute for Ajax Cape Town who lost 2-1 to Moroka Swallows in Cape Town.
