Members of Katanda CCAP in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwambo in Zomba have said believers have a crucial role in the construction of decent churches for them to worship God in.

The sentiments were expressed during a Paper Sunday Katanda Church organised to raise money for construction of a new church as the current one is in dilapidated state and poses a threat to lives of worshippers.

To show commitment towards the new church, project some members of the church pledged to contribute 73 iron sheets.

According to a source at the church, they already have a kiln of bricks which they moulded in 2014.

Reverend Gracious Meki, who ministers at the congregation, hailed the members for the pledges of iron sheets and assured them that despite their church being outside the city, commitment can still enable them to construct a modern church.

Citing the story of ‘the offering of a widow’ in Luke 21:1-4, Meki said the rich and the poor should join hands in the project. He urged everyone to contribute generously.

“God loves cheerful givers and your contributions here have shown that you are committed to constructing a new church. We are certain that some more well-wishers will come in because of the giving spirit you have portrayed,” said Meki.

He, however, advised the church’s leadership not to misuse contributions towards the project.

“Misappropriation of funds usually disappoints believers and well-wishers, so don’t let the work of God stop because of serving your own desires,” he advised.
