S.R. Nicholas, the company constructing Reserve Bank Branch in Mzuzu, has finished rebuilding three courts at Katoto Secondary School.

The central bank, which is being built close to the school, had taken some space on volleyball, hockey and netball courts.

The development led to the inactivity of the three sporting disciplines’ in the city, as there were no available courts.

“This affected my performance. I have stayed for a year without participating in active basketball tournaments due to lack of pitches,” said one basketball player Lucky Nyirenda.

Now that the construction of the courts is complete, players of volleyball, baskeball and netball can afford a smile.

Katoto Secondary School sports teacher Samson Nyirenda was over the moon when contacted to comment on the development.

“I am happy with what I saw on Friday, the company has done a good job. I did not expect that,” said Nyirenda.

Northern Region Volleyball Committee chairperson Mafumu Nkhoma said the new facility will accord them the opportunity to play games even at night.

“If you look at the new site, it is situated within the floodlights, the bank has installed, so, this is another unique feature that will enable teams to play even during the night,” said Nkhoma.

He further revealed that with the new facilities incorporated at the site, it will be possible to host international games.
