Malawi National Korfball Team is in Lusaka, Zambia participating in the Africa Korfball Championships slated for Youth Olympic Development Centre. The games, which started on August 6 ends on 10.

According to Korfball Association of Malawi (MKA) general secretary Mzee Makawa, International Korfball Federation (IKF) will provide food and accommodation for the 16-member squad.

“MKA is expected to meet travel costs while the Sports Council has provided material support,” said Makawa.

This is the first time that the Malawi team is taking part in such an international competition since the sport was established in 2008. The sport was developed in the Netherlands.

Korfball is a non-contact mixed zone sport featuring both men and women. Players deploy basketball and netball tactics to outfox each other in the field.

Malawi has also two umpires, Faggie Mwalweni and Sophie Kathewera. The two have officiated international games in South Africa.
