The semi-final line-up for the Lab Enterprise Matchplay Golf finals was set on Monday.

Pairs of Gabriel Kambale and Harold Jiya, Steve Chanje and David Nyirenda, Donbell Mandala and Edwin Chipala, and Stella Hara and Zachari Hara will battle it out in the semi-finals.

They defeated Teri Amaru and Bernard Chizaka, Titus N’nensa and Phillip Phambana, Beatrice Mangwana and Collen Sibande and Andrieno Guarino and Andrew Santhe respectively.

Kambale and Jiya’s pair will play Mandala and Chipala while the Haras will face Nyirenda and Chanje in the semi-finals on December 1 with the finals on December 8.

According to one of the organisers Dingaan Chirwa, the tournament that is being staged at Blantyre Sports Club has been lively.

“It is one of rare knockout competitions in the country and it has been competitive. Top golfers such as plus 2 handicapped Paul Chidale and John Suzi Banda failed to go past the first round.

“The tournament has also helped to improve endurance and concentration of golfers because of the duration unlike the normal one-day or two-day tournaments,” said Chirwa.

Lab Enterprises managing director Noel Lipipa said they were impressed with the progress.

“We have sponsored golf tournaments before, but none come close to this one in terms of competitiveness and excitement. We believe we will witness top matches in the semi-finals as well as the final,” said Lipipa.

The tournament attracted 32 pairs.
