One of the country’s fashion designers Lilly Alfonso says preparations are  underway for the Spring Summer Fashion Exhibition.

Speaking in an interview with The Nation on Saturday, she said the event will take place on August 24 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) in Lilongwe.

Lilly Alfonso: We are going to showcase export-ready products.

“The Lilly Alfonso 100-Year Plan in collaboration with Wealth Magazine is excited to announce the Spring Summer Fashion show. It is a two-day event which will run from August 24 to 25. On the 24th, we will hold a boot camp for various players across all industries. Then on the 25th, we will organise the big fashion show,” she said.

The fashion show will be held under the theme ‘Fashion Meets Business: Unlocking Malawi’s Potential to the World’.

Alfonso said the theme underscores the improved quality that Malawian fashion has attained.

“The theme for this event confirms that Malawian fashion has attained a status to reckon with on the globe stage.

People from all walks of life should expect to see four promising designs that are export-ready and trustworthy for investment in Malawi during the fashion show,” she said.

The presentation will showcase Lilly Alfonso’s exclusive 2024 collection.

For a long time, Malawi has been yearning to export products  to generate the much-needed forex. Quality and branding is an area which producers have been encouraged to work on to come up with competitive and export-ready materials.

Dorothy Binali, one of the aspiring fashion designers who is set to attend Lilly Alfonso’s exclusive fashion show, said: “I am a great fan of Lilly Alfonso because her designs inspire me. And I can’t wait to marvel and support her 2024 collections.”

Alfonso has been in the fashion industry for a long time. Her designs are loved by many people both locally and internationally. Mostly, she exports her products in Europe and across Africa.
