Malawi’s celebrated fashion designer Lilly Alfonso continues to soar on the international stage as next month she is set to represent Malawi at one of the biggest fashion events in Europe.

Catalonia and the city of Barcelona have a long tradition in the textile industry for centuries, and the current situation allows visitors to talk about a consolidation of the design with a distinctive sign, in various fashion areas, such as production, distribution, sales, as well as their promotion.

“I am leaving on June 10 for the fashion week. Of course I am leaving earlier because I have other things to do in Europe. However, I will showcase at Barcelona fashion week on June 21,” said Alfonso.

Being the second time for her to appear at such a big stage, the designer is very ecstatic and optimistic of the future.

“The first time I went there, the trip generated a lot of international interest, with people buying my designs and investors showing interest in business ventures. I am sure, I will continue from where I left off,” she said.

The fashion designer has also hinted on travelling to Africa fashion week London, among the many fashion events she is set to participate this year.

Said Alfonso: “There are a number of big international fashion weeks I am set to participate. Will only give details at a later stage.”

The Barcelona Fashion Week was born in July 2007 in order to give visibility to independent designers and become a benchmark of design and fashion forward internationally. It is much more than a fashion show.

In the Barcelona Fashion Week 2014 will take place 34 parades of designers and brands.

It also highlights the return of Sita Murt, which after a stage parading in the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid returns to the Catalan catwalk.

Brands participants at the Barcelona Fashion Week 2014 are Aldomartins, Boboli, Condor, Custo Barcelona, Desigual, Scorpio, Mango, Naulover, Punto Blanco, Slazenger, TCN, Torras and Yerse.

A new feature also returns Txell Miras and parade for the first time in 080 designers Isabel Toledo and Manuel Lebor Gabala Cruzcastillo, which will add to Albéniz, Brain & Beast (winner of the 080 Barcelona Fashion Award last edition), Celia Vela, Georgina Vendrell, Josep Abril, Justicia Ruano, Krizia Robustella, Manuel Bolaño, Martinez Lierah, Miriam Ponsa, Natalie Capell, Oscarleon, Selim de Somavilla, Ssic & Paul and Zazo & Brull.

The Barcelona Fashion Week 2014 will have an open area to the general public, with a commercial space that will bring together fifty ephemeral boutiques, footwear and accessories.
