Accommodation hitches have forced Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (Ltam) to trim national finalists for this weekend’s Puma Energy Junior Tennis Championships at the Country Club Limbe.

Initially, each of the cities, namely, Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu was supposed to send to the national encounters the best 24 players from the regional encounters, but according to Ltam media executive Tadala Kandulu, it is only Blantyre that will maintain that number of athletes.

She said Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu will now have 12 representatives each in the national finals because accommodation will not be enough at the Sports Council during the two-day event.

“We have a space of only 44 individuals at the Sports Council hostels and we had no choice, but to trim the number of finalists from the other three cities to make things work smoothly,” she said.

Kandulu said they could not afford to book extra rooms for the athletes because they already spent over K400 000 for the regional encounters few weeks ago.
