After much talk in the media about the launch of Lilongwe’s first ever cinema, there was little or no ado as the opening of M Cinema failed to take place on Saturday.

Manowood Limited announced that it would open its cinema on April 25 in Lilongwe with the organisers saying all was set for the launch.

However, Capital City movie fanatics failed to watch the movies on the menu as the cinema suffered technical hitches.

“We had technical problems. Our amplifiers are not functioning and we cannot start beaming without them. Therefore, the official opening has been shifted to Wednesday,” said managing director Udokporo Nathaniel.

Three movies, Last Secret, Night of Judgement and The Rubicon, were scheduled to be on show on Saturday afternoon.

A visit to the cinema at City Mall found scores of people returning with a consolation pack of free popcorn.

“Yes, a number of people went back. On average, about 50 people came. We are apologising for the inconvenience and at the same time assuring them that come Wednesday we will be up and running. Again, this has not in any way affected our Saturday activities where we will be hosting Jackie Appiah, prince David Osei and Andy Boyo for the premiere of Off The Hook,” Nathaniel explained.

Other than the technical hitches, a visit by The Nation also found workers putting last time fixings.
