One of the finest goalkeepers to emerge on the domestic scene, Boniface Maganga, has said Flames have taken a gamble by putting their faith in two inexperienced goalkeepers for tomorrow’s 2015 Afcon preliminary qualifier against Benin.

Flames have taken Kamuzu Barracks goaltender McDonald Harawa and his Mighty Wanderers counterpart Richard Chipuwa who have two and one caps respectively.

“If the two chaps are outstanding at the moment, then well and good, but from my experience, it is a gamble to take two goalkeepers with little experience for such a tough away fixture.

“They have just played one or two friendlies and on Sunday one of them will have to guard the posts in such a potentially tough battle? I think they should have also taken another ‘keeper who has a bit of experience, but if there is none then I am afraid we have no choice,” said Maganga who is credited for being at the hub of Flames’ historic back-to-back East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup championship in 1978 and the following year.

He said it will be difficult for either of the two goalkeepers to hold their nerve in their first competitive match away.

Regular goalkeeper Charles Swini was dropped due to injury while Mozambique based towering goaltender Simplex Nthala is suffering a slump in form.
