Nankhumwa: Culprits will be brought to book

Government has assured Malawians that it has put in place measures to ensure there is tight security in the country.

The assurance comes at a time the country has experienced an increase in crime, including hijacks, armed robberies and house break-ins.

Speaking at the Central Office Information (COI) after visiting the Publications and Civic Education Sections in Lilongwe on Wednesday, Minister of Information, Tourism and Civic Education Kondwani Nankhumwa said government is aware of the public outcry on crime levels.

“Let me assure everybody out there that government has tightened up its security to ensure that Malawians are free and secure and not living in fear,” said Nankhumwa.

Recently, Malawi has also seen some public infrastructure such as the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Lilongwe Warehouse being gutted by fire, leading to speculation of arson.

“We don’t know the cause and aim behind these fires. It is sad but I must say that government is taking some measures. As Malawi Electoral Commission makes its investigations, government is also carrying out another investigation.

“We want to make sure that all culprits are brought to book for loss of property and the criminal act. Government will not sit idle and watch this malpractice continue in the country,” he said.

  1. Kkkkkkk, this is really funny, it’s like the minister is talking to kindergarten children and it’s a shame that Malawians are being taken for granted with this kind of rhetoric by this unrepentant DPP govt.
The Electoral Commission warehouse was attacked and set on fire by allegedly NIS officers in full view of 10 not just 1 or 2 but 10 fully armed police mobile force officers plus two ordinary guards and 2 MCP monitors. To date, no single person involved in this senseless arson attack has been arrested so what kind of security is this dunderhead minister talking about.
How can you put a politician like Dausi in charge of a very important national security organisation like NIS and expect nonpartisan and professionalism code of conduct from those working there. I was actually shocked when it became known that APM after promising a change in the way govt runs its affairs at his inauguration ceremony, has settled for uncivilised politician like Dausi to lead a very important govt security tool like NIS.
My massage to APM and Dausi is that the NIS has a lot of work to do to understand what the Taifas are doing with the portion of our lake they claim is theirs. Malawians have not forgotten that APM promised them they will never lose a single drop of water from lake Malawi to the Taifas and probably that’s the only reason why despite the chaotic general elections they have taken it on the chin in the hope that our lake will still remain lake Malawi and not lake Nyasa to the Taifas.
