Do you have the stuff that can see you strutting across the runway at Malawi’s first Fashion Week to be held end May to early June? Then the upcoming auditions are for you.

Elegant Resources and African Dzuwa Magazine have announced the auditions to take place on the weekend of 23 and 24 February at Crossroads Hotel.

“We are closing receiving of calls for aspiring models wishing to take part in the event on Friday, February 22. Then, after scrutinising all the applications, auditions will be held on the weekend of 23 and 24 February at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe from 9am to 6pm. On the other hand, registration for designers will close on February 28,” said public relations coordinator, Kimpho Hastings Loka.

“The auditions will be conducted by a team of professionals that has been put together to make sure that the country’s modelling industry is well represented at the Malawi Fashion Week 2013,” explained Loka.

According to Loka, there has been an overwhelming response from both local and international models as well as designers.

“We have so far registered 24 models and nine designers through MFW website www.malawifashionweek.net. Among the models that have registered, 17 are Malawians and seven are from other African countries, namely; Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa as well as Zambia, and seven designer applicants are local while one is from the UK and another from South Africa.

“We are happy with the response so far. We are encouraging people to register now before they miss out on this historic event,” he added.

Loka also said the four-day outdoor event is close to having 8 000 followers on social media Facebook.

“With this response, we will definitely have over 20 000 followers by May. The page shows that Malawians and Africans as a whole are engaged in the idea,” he said.
