The Malawi Olympic team has left today for Gaborone, Botswana to participate in the Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa (Anoca) Youth Championship Olympic Games slated for May 22-31.

According to Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) president Oscar Kanjala, the regional tournament, which attracts 14 southern African countries, is for players aged between 15 and 19.

“This is one of the biggest Olympic national games we are participating in. We have organised good teams in all categories,” said Kanjala.

Speaking just before the team’s departure in Lilongwe, leader of delegation, Henry Sakala, who is MOC treasurer, said the teams will travel by road via Zambia.

“We have been in camp long enough. We also have ranked players such as Joyce Tafatatha in swimming category and Chisomo Lumeta in lawn tennis who are giving us enough confidence of winning more medals at this event,” he said.

According to Sakala, Malawi will participate in various categories, including swimming, boxing, athletics, judo, taekwondo and lawn tennis.
