Muslims Association of Malawi (MAM) on Tuesday donated Iftaar to 150 groups at Mkwate in Blantyre.

Iftaar refers to the evening meal used by Muslims to break their fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan.

The donation comes as a result of the recent month-long visit to Kuwait of MAM national chairperson Sheikh Muhammad Idrissa and his secretary general Salmin Omar. MAM deputy board chairperson Sidik Mia, who is also Minister of Transport and People’s Party (PP) vice -president (South), funded the Kuwait trip.

The donation came from Revival of Islamic Heritage Society through African Continent Committee State of Kuwait Iftaar.

“These items are meant for use during the breaking of the fasting and should be shared among you,” he said.

Omar said their trip’s main objective was to raise money for orphanages.

“We have so many children in our orphanages that need help and we believe whatever was collected will go a long way in helping these children understand the teachings of Islam,” he added.

The Iftaar beneficiaries came from nine mosques around Mkwate area in Blantyre.
