MAM yearns for resettlement of flood victims

To enable relocated flood victims to resettle well, the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has urged well-wishers to give the victims worthwhile items.
Executive secretary for the association, Stoti Watchi, said this at Khungubwe Camp in Chikwawa on Sunday when MAM distributed relief items worth K5 million (US$11 111) with support from Kuwait.
Watchi said they are planning to provide hoes, pangas, seed and fertilisers for the flood victims to resume normal faming activities.
“These people are just being relocated, but we have to help them to restart working in their gardens so that they can grow their own food. Chikwawa and Nsanje will be the first beneficiaries because they are the ones most affected,” said Watchi.

Meanwhile, director of the African Continent Committee on Revival Heritage Islamic Society of Kuwait, Jassem Ali Inati has pledged continued support for the victims.
“The peace existing in Malawi gives us chance to continue assisting the victims. We have seen that the problem is big here; hence our second coming, after we brought the first consignment.
“These items are not from my pocket, but from well-wishers in Kuwait. When they learnt about the problem from MAM president Sheikh Idrissah Muhammad, they put money together to buy these items,” said Inati.
Each beneficiary received 10kg ufa, 5kg beans and 2kg sugar. The items were presented by Inati and Muhammad, who were assisted by MAM board chairperson Sheikh Ali Kennedy.
This is the second time Khungubwe Camp has benefitted from the Kuwait Heritage assistance.
Within the week, Inani distributed similar items to Chiradzulu flood victims.
