Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI)says it seeks to give industry captains an opportunity to brainstorm and find solutions to topical issues affecting businesses in the country.

This was disclosed during the handover of a K6 million sponsorship by Old Mutual Malawi plc to MCCCI for its annual businesses leadership summit scheduled for  Thursday April 25 to Saturday April 27 at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi under the theme ‘Re-engineering business to withstand shocks’.

MCCCI chief executive officer Daisy Kambalame said the platform will accord businesses an opportunity to explore the importance of adaptability, resilience and transformation in navigating dynamic economic challenges.

She said: “We agree that for any country to develop, you need a thriving private sector. It’s so easy to focus on problems [than problems].

“We believe that solutions lies in the partnerships the private sector bring on the table; how do we drive growth, how are we investing and strategising towards generation of forex and how we reduce appetite for imports by producinggood we import.”

Kambalame said businesses will also be looking at accessing finance by capitalising on opportunities on the market other than banks.

Kambalame has since thanked Old Mutual Malawi plc for the sponsorship, which, she said, will be vital as they convene to devise growth pathways and foster transformational leadership amidst economic disruptions.

On her part, Old Mutual Malawi plc marketing and corporate affairs manager Patience Chatsika said by joining hands and working towards a common vision of prosperity and progress, Malawi can unlock endless possibilities for the future.

She said the contribution has gone towards the purchasing of writing pads and pens to be used by esteemed delegates at the summit.

Said Chatsika: “MCCCI remains our key stakeholder and this sponsorship contribution is one of the ways of saying thank you for your support.”

MCCCI anticipate hosting 200 delegates at the 2024 summit, a rise from the 110 delegates in attendance of the 2023 summit.
