The fashion world woke up to a shocking Saturday morning with the sad story of the death of the former Miss Malawi Ireland contestant Prema Tewesa who died in a road accident on Saturday morning.

According to the deceased’s father, former football administrator Billy Tewesa, Prema, 21, died in an accident along the Masauko Chipembere Highway.

“We have lost our lovely and successful daughter to a road accident on Saturday. It is a big shock to the family since she was young and with potential for more success in her life,” said the father.

Prema was studying business management in Dublin in Ireland. Previously, she had studied journalism at the Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ).

Tewesa said the young lady was in the country for the festive holidays and was expected to return to Ireland to finish her studies.

He said Prema was expected to graduate in September.

While in Ireland, Prema was among Malawians who promoted unity among Malawians and preservation of Malawian culture through various activities that brought Malawians living in Ireland together.

She was among the contestants in the inaugural Miss Malawi Ireland two years ago at the Clarion Hotel in the Irish capital city, Dublin.

The event was graced by Malawian musician Lucius Banda and German government officials from the International Affairs Department Tobias Hanchenberg and Daniel Dank.

Prema came from T/A Kapeni in Blantyre and her body was buried at HHI Cemetery in Blantyreon Sunday under the escort of thousands of people who included friends, former schoolmates and relatives.
