The piercing voice of talented gospel musician Ethel Kamwendo Banda dominated the Southern Region leg of the Moyo ndi Mpamba Music4life Festival that took place at Gymkhana Club in the old capital on Saturday afternoon.

The artist’s voice enchanted the masses and combined well with intelligent lyrics. Some people described it as angelic; others said it was sugar sweetened while others simply said it was metallic.

But above all, the lyrics that went along with this voice are a true reflection of the artist who is an ambassador for Moyo ndi Mpamba.

The Music4Life Festival kicked off with a show in Mzuzu two weeks ago before taking Lilongwe hostage last week.

The national festival will be held in Lilongwe this weekend.

McDonald Msadala, Zone Health Supervisor for Eastern Region, defined music as a tool that catches the attention of many people which needs to be valued and honoured

“Lyrically, Ethel is unique as she tackled health issues like those of malaria, HIV and Aids, nutrition, safe motherhood among other health problems quite fantastically. Through her creativity, we are hopeful that we have impacted many people at once with messages on behavioural change,” said Msadala.

Zomba Mayor Joana Ntaja expressed satisfaction with the music festival and appealed to other service providers to organise more shows in the city if they are to have an impact in their projects.

“The massive turn up of people to this dance is a true reflection that a lot of people are in dire need of entertainment. This festival has given them quality health edutainment and I appeal to the people to utilize the messages wisely,” she said.

Other artists who performed during the fiesta were Katelele Ching’oma, Mlaka Maliro and Andiamo Music School Band.

The music feast was organised by the Ministry of Health through its Moyo ndi Mpamba project in conjunction with Support for Service Delivery Integration (SSDI) with funding from Usaid.
