Gwengwe: The plan has come at a very good time

Bon Voyage senior tours consultant Jacinta Amao says Mozambican Airlines will start its operations in the country in a few months time and this will ease problems many travelers were facing when travelling between the two countries.

With this development, travellers between the two countries will be able to fly straight into Mozambique instead of connecting in Johannesburg, South Africa as is the case at the moment.

In an interview in Lilongwe, Amao said they have already started issuing tickets to all destinations where the Mozambican Airlines operates to.

Said Amao: “We have started issuing tickets to all destinations where Mozambique Airlines operates. The coming in of Mozambique Airlines, will certainly ease travel between Malawi and Mozambique as up to now there is no carrier that operates between the two countries.”

Amao added that Mozambique is one of the fastest growing economies and the two countries will benefit from each other because of the expected trade boom.

According to Amoa, Bon Voyage Tours is working hand in hand with BVT Expeditions which is a subsidiary of Bon Voyage Tours.

“As of now, we plan to employ a staff compliment of four including airport staff. Our office will be responsible for sales and marketing of Mozambique Airlines products directly to customers and through their preferred travel agents,” he said.

As part of the investment the organisation has purchased an eight seater vehicle for airport transfers as well as Lake Malawi tours

Minister of Industry and Trade Sosten Gwengwe said plans by the Mozambican Airlines have come at a very good time when trade between the two countries is expected to grow following the discovery of minerals and the construction of the railway line from Tete to Beira.

“Mozambique and Malawi being neighbors will greatly benefit from direct flights between the two countries. Of late there have been several private sector institutions which have expressed hope of opening offices in Mozambique and within direct flights then travelling will be simplified,” said Gwengwe who also recently visited Tete on a fact finding mission.

According to Amao, Mozambican Airlines has added a new destination of Moyet Island bringing to ten the number of destinations the airlines is flying into.
