Msinja South legislator Francis Belekanyama (Malawi Congress Party)on Wednesday presented K7 million for his Msinja Development Fund.

The revolving fund for the constituency’s youth and women will be accessed through Masula Youth Network, Dzowe Titukulane Club and Umodzi Club.

Speaking during the handover, Msinja Development Fund representative Steve Banda said the fund targets the marginalised, minorities and vulnerable people in the constituency.

He said: “The wish of honourable Belekanyama is to empower the youth and women economically and that’s why we are here today to fulfil that wish.

“We are sure that the loans that will be given to the clubs will help them to start a small business and help themselves in their families.”

Masula Youth Network chairperson Migilasi Tchaya said they are happy with their member of Parliament’s (MP) vision and pledged to use the resources for continued development.

“Idle youths can indulge in immoral behaviour, but now they have something to do like farming and small business with this money,” he said.

Tchaya added that they will have trainings to teach the clubs how to maintain their business to repay the loans.

Group village head Mnguma praised Belekanyama for the initiative as it will transform people’s lives.

“As a leader, I am extremely happy for this development. Our youth were just wandering around and others were engaging in immoral behaviour. This will help keep them busy and earn something,” he said.

The development fund seeks to empower women, youth and persons with disabilities to access finances for business promotion in the constituency.
