Junior golfer Patrick Mtileni emerged the winner in the 18-hole category of the Nkhanga-sponsored junior golf tournament held at Nchalo Sports Club in Chikwawa on Saturday.

Initially, Mtileni tied on 119 strokes with Mario Phiri, but emerged triumphant after a play-off.

“It was a very tight contest that could have gone either way because Mario is also a good up-and-coming golfer and that it went down to the wire, just proves how competitive it was.

“I am excited to have won the competition and I thank sponsors and the organising committee for such a wonderful tournament,” said Mtileni, a student at Saint Andrews International Primary School in Blantyre.

With 124 strokes, Marcus Chalulu finished third.

Ironically, in the nine-hole category, Graham MacTavish and Carl Van der Walt also tied on 75 strokes and had to be separated by a play-off in which MacTavish emerged triumphant. Miquel Araujo (79 strokes) clinched the third position.

ZiyaadMussa continues to dominate the five-hole category where he again scooped the first position with 47, pipping Adam Stanely (48 strokes) while GibraelLambat came third on 53 strokes.

Rory Stanley won the three-hole category with 37 strokes followed by the Hacker brothers—Andrew (45) and John (49) respectively.
