Visiting Zimbabwe music maestro Oliver Mtukudzi will, as Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, attend a youth open day where HIV testing and counselling and other health services will be provided to young people and community members.

Mtukudzi, who arrived in the country yesterday for a tour concert at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe tomorrow, will have an opportunity of meeting young people and community health service providers at Lilongwe Teacher Training College in Area 25 on Saturday.

“The youth visit is part of Unicef’s programme, ‘Narrowing the Gap: Scaling up adolescents’ access to quality information and utilisation of services on HIV prevention, treatment and support.’ The programme is funded by GIZ, the German Society for International Cooperation.

“Unicef’s partner, Banja la Mtsogolo (BLM), in collaboration with Lilongwe District Health Office, will conduct routine outreach service delivery. Adolescents and community members will have access to free HIV testing and counselling, family planning, information, condoms, STI screening and referrals,” says Unicef’s chief of communication Angela Travis.

According to Unicef, some of the invited guests include the Mayor of Lilongwe, Secretaries of the Ministry of Youth and Ministry of Health, the Director of the Ministry of Health’s HIV/Aids Department, the Lilongwe District Commissioner and District Executive Team, the GIZ Mission Director, and Councillor for the area and community leaders.
