Long and meandering lines characterized the voting mood in Mulanje District as thousands of voters, especially  women, queued to cast their vote.

Voting in Mulanje stated on a good note despite the delays in the delivery of materials. In most centres voting started some minutes after 6am, however voting went on smoothly afterwards.

At Njedza Polling Centre in Mulanje South Constituency there were challenges of shortage of ink, ink pads and reflectors. The other problem was the mix-up of prisoners’ names with those of ordinary people.Chisitu Polling Station opened on time

Mulanje District Commissioner Jack Ngulube says so far the major challenge the district has faced is the delay in delivering of materials. He said he was impressed with the turn up so far.

As at 6am there were six areas that were yet to receive materials.

“We have a shortfall of eight voters’ roll out of 116 centres that Mulanje as a district has,” Ngulube said.

Mulanje North Constituency was affected by the delay as it started voting after 6:30 am.
