The Malawi University of Science and Technology (Must) has organised an open day targeting secondary school students, parents and other potential stakeholders to be held on October 24 in Thyolo District.

According to a Must press statement signed by university registrar Tarsizius Nampota, the open day will feature a campus tour, displays, documentaries and presentations on what Must is all about, its academic programmes and  requirements for enrolment.

“As a public university, Must was among others, established to increase access to higher education by Malawian school leavers,” reads the statement in part.

It is expected that government officials and captains of industry, especially those whose organisations utilise science and technology in their operations, will grace the function which will be held under the theme “Establishing a gateway for innovation and entrepreneurship in science and technology”.

The statement further says Must will also allow organisations to make presentations or mount displays on how they utilise science and technology in their businesses as part of national development.

Secondary schools across the country will also be invited, but those who want their students to be inspired and motivated to pursue science and technology related careers are also encouraged to contact the university.

Must is also appealing to interested organisations to partner them in holding the open day. The University comprises three functional areas; teaching and learning area, sports area and living services area.

Must is located at Ndata in Thyolo and is the fourth public university to be established by the government of Malawi.
