Netball export Mwawi Kumwenda donated a netball kit, a ball and textbooks worth about K300 000 to Namasimba Primary School in Nancholi, Blantyre on Monday.

The lanky shooter, who plays for New Zealand top-league outfit Easiyo Tactix, said the gift is part of her charity works at her club.

“Whenever, I play netball in the foreign land, the plight of my fellow Malawians, especially young school girls, is always at heart. Charity is something I have committed to do for the rest of my life because I underwent similar challenges during my childhood,” she said.

Namasimba Primary School head teacher Lonely Nkhoma described the donation as timely and worthwhile considering the struggles the school’s 4 485 pupils have been going through due to lack of such learning materials.

“Mwawi has saved our school from shame. Our netball team will no longer shabbily dress during school competitions and our pupils will now be among the best during examinations thanks to the text books we have received. We are very grateful for the support,” Nkhoma said. n
