Youths from Traditional Authority (T/A) Mtwalo in Mzimba North on Saturday took to task their member of Parliament (MP) Agnes Nyalonje, reminding her about the issues she promised them during campaign for the May 20 elections.

Speaking at a five-day annual youth conference facilitated by Church and Society under Livingstonia Synod, Henga Regional Youth Zone chairperson Ken Mwamlima said they are yet to receive, among others, business loans the MP vowed to give them once elected.

“The youth are also waiting for a national secondary school and vocational training centre the MP promised. We are of the view that if these facilities can be provided it would be possible for us to become productive and contribute to the national development,” said Mwamlima.

In her response, Nyalonje said it is good that the youth are active and she assured to deliver the promises after holding discussions with government and donors.

“I am happy that I have active youths in my constituency. However, let me point out that we have ward councillors who you should consistently consult on such issues,” she said.

On vocational training, Nyalonje said government has already set plans to plant community colleges in every district, as such, “it will be my duty to make sure that you benefit from those colleges”.

Synod Church and Society programme development officer, Happy Mhango, said his organisation has already lined up activities that aim to train the youth in entrepreneurship skills.

“We have already launched a project that aims at training the youth in business skills,” said Mhango.
