A Mzuzu-based Escom motor vehicle technician Solomon Kamanga has won K1 million in FDH Bank Zatheka Promotion that run from March to May 2014.

Kamanga said he thought it was a plank from his friends when he first got the news.

He said the money has come at the right time when he has a house construction project and school fees bills at hand.

“When I opened my Zatheka account I did not have the competition in mind, all I wanted was to save money at a good interest rate of 18 percent quarterly, for school fees,” Kamanga said.

Transactional banking business manager Henry Najira said the promotion which was meant to promote a saving culture among Malawians, served its purpose.

Najira said the bank will also introduce other promotions to encourage the same among Malawians who are known for their non saving attitude.

“The bank has registered a five percent increase customer base during the period of the promotion which is attributed to among other reasons the just ended promotion,” Najira said.

The competition required customers to open a Zatheka account with K10 000 only and save K50 000 to stand a chance to win.

The locally bred bank which started its operations in 2008 with Umoyo branch in Blantyre currently has 12 branches across the country.
