Mzuzu Warriors AGM Feb 29
Mzuzu Warriors, formerly Mzuni FC, will hold its first annual general meeting (AGM) on February 29 at Mzuzu CCAP Primary to elect new office-bearers.
The AGM comes after the Mzuzu-based outfit delinked itself from previous sponsors Mzuzu University (Mzuni) and rebranded to Mzuzu Warriors.
The club’s general secretary Donnex Chilonga said all positions are up for grabs.
He said: “We will elect chairperson, vice-chairperson, general secretary, vice-general secretary, treasurer and committee members,” he said.
Those eligible to contest are the club’s affiliates who will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of K15 000 for positions of chairperson, vice-chairperson, general secretary, vice-general secretary, treasurer and K10 000 for ordinary members.”
Chilonga added that apart from electing new office-bearers, the AGM will review the constitution.
“As you are aware, we have changed our name after parting ways with Mzuzu University [Mzuni]. We wish to amend some provisions, especially those that reflect Mzuni FC agenda.
“Presently, it’s a community team. However, we are in the process of identifying individuals who can pull resources together and own the club,” he said.
Last season Mzuzu Warriors barely surivived relegation after finishing on position 12 with 32 points.
Mzuzu Warriors assistant coach Eston Kadenge Mwafulirwa said it was not easy to survive relegation as the club experienced financial problems after severing ties with Mzuni.
The club lost the bulk of its squad and only had 13 players in the second round.
“The players were only playing because of passion,” Mwafulirwa explained.
Mzuni FC was formed in 1999 as Mzuzu University’s students football club. It later incorporated players around the city, a development that would later be the genesis of the disagreements with the institution which wanted only students to make the team.
