Chinunda: We want to give equal opportunities

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has announced that vacancies for Malawi Queens’ coaching jobs will be advertised in the press to ensure transparency in the selection exercise.

Initially, the local netball governing body said they would nominate outstanding club coaches to be considered for Queens’ coaching positions, but now the criterion has changed, NAM president Rosy Chinunda said on Thursday.

The body would like to recruit a permanent three-member coaching panel that will include technical director, coach and assistant coach.

Griffin Saenda, Mary Waya and Peace Chawinga-Kalua, who held the positions respectively on interim basis during the recent African Netball Associations (ANA) Championships in Blantyre, were initially linked to the posts.

“We have decided to change the criterion to ensure transparency in the selection exercise. We want to be equal opportunity employers and no one has been nominated for the posts. We will place adverts in the papers for the positions and each interested coach will be required to send us their CVs,” she said.

Meanwhile, Chinunda said they failed to hold a meeting with Sports Ministry officials on Tuesday to discuss the issue of the coaches’ recruitment because they were tied up with work at their respective offices.

“We now have shifted that meeting to later next week. It is that meeting that will decide when we should advertise the jobs,” she said.

Youth and Sports Minister Enoch Chihana told The Nation recently that they would also employ netball coaches that will be drilling players at regional level.
