Nanzikambe’s first tour in the voter and civic education project under the National Initiative for Civic Education(Nice) programme from last Thursday to Sunday in Mwanza and Neno districts was welcomed with huge anticipation from the people in the district, drawing thousands of people to watch the performances.

All performances attracted over 2000 people on average to each performance. The attention and laughter as the group performed and the questions asked thereafter proved the understanding the audiences got from the performances.

Titled Tiyeni Tilembetse, the play which is designed in a very interactive model gives a complete story about voting in the shortest time. The play which is purely in Chichewa begins with a song by a Rasta who is representing the youth played by Chimwemwe Munthali who through a dancehall tune encourages fellow youths who are now 18 years old and above or will be 18 by May 2014 to register to vote.

However, more fascinating are the second and third scenes which brings people in a family setup, some at a bar discussing elections. Setting of the third scene is at the chief’s home and in an interactive style, the scene drills people on the importance of registering to vote, voting and the requirements for one to vote.
