The National Council for Higher Education (Nche) and the Technical, Entrepreneurial, and Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on quality assurance in tertiary education.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lilongwe on Wednesday, Teveta board chairperson Don Whayo said the aim of the agreement is to collaborate in the regulation of tertiary education training provision and the attainment of relevant qualifications by learners, in line with the two institutions’ mandates.

He said: “The MoU we are signing today is important because it will synergise regulation efforts by the two institutions, since Nche as a regulatory body for higher education in Malawi, handles similar and related work as Teveta in the Tevet system.

“This will assist to provide efficient and effective services to stakeholders while eliminating confusions and overlaps in the regulation of tertiary education and training.”

Whayo said Teveta observed visible confusion in stakeholders who fail to distinguish the roles performed by us and our sister institution Nche.

Nche board chairperson Beatrice Mtimuni said under this partnership, both parties will perform joint and specific roles.
