Nissan has partnered with Associated Motor Holdings (AMH) through its local subsidiary Imperial Stansfield Motors to launch a new company Nissan Malawi, which will be distributing the company’s range of vehicles.

As a result of the launch of the new company, Nissan cars whose franchise was previously owned by CFAO Malawi, will now be serviced by the new company.

nissanEarlier last year, Toyota Motor Corporation acquired a controlling stake in CFAO, a relationship that the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFCT), a local regulator, said would strictly monitor compliance to the companies’ undertakings not to lessen competition in market considering that the two control considerable market shares in the country’s motor industry.

Commenting on the decision to withdraw the franchise from CFAO, Nissan Malawi said the bottom line to the creation of the new company is based on the acquisition of the company by a competitor that also sells Japanese vehicles.

Speaking during the launch of the new company in Blantyre, Nissan South Africa market development manager Grant Scott said they are happy with the partnership with AMH which trades as Nissan Malawi as part of Nissan’s new dealer direct distribution strategy.

Nissan has about 12 percent of market share in Malawi and eight percent globally.
