Be Forward Wanderers yesterday handed Kamuzu Barracks (KB) their first defeat in the TNM Super League with following 2-0 victory at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Nomads have moved three places up to third position with 13 points from six matches.

Strikes in either halves from Francis Mkonda and Vincent Nyangulu ensured the Nomads triumphed over the Lilongwe-based outfit for the fifth consecutive time in the elite league. KB are yet to register a win over Wanderers since their 2-1 victory in the second round of 2016 season.

This was also Wanderers’ biggest victory over KB in the top-flight league in four seasons as their previous triumphs had a single goal margin.

However, the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) outfit remains unmoved at the summit of the 16-team log-table with 14 points from seven games, the same points and games as second-placed Blue Eagles.

Mkonda registered his first goal for the Nomads in the 36th minute when he headed home a well-curved cross from Stanley Sanudi.

Nyangulu made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute when he dribbled past a forest of defenders before breaking free to let out a thunderous strike past KB goalkeeper Bonace Lweya.

Wanderers team manager Victor Maunde said: “We are happy with the victory as we move up the log-table. The boys gave their all and it is a deserved victory,”

On the other hand, KB coach Billy Phambala, whose side struggled to beat Ntopwa FC 1-0 the previous day, attributed the loss to fatigue.

“We played a tougher game on Saturday and we were out of sorts in today’s match. However, we are happy to remain at the top of the table,” he said.
