Nomads move to fill coach’s post

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers say the process of filling the position of head coach, which fell vacant following the resignation of Nsanzurwimo Ramahdan on May 27, is at an advanced stage.

Upon appointing Mwase as interim head coach following the Burundian’s departure, the Nomads said a decision would be made after the TNM Super League first round which concluded last week.

The Nomads’  head of technical panel Tiya Somba Banda, who is also the team’s board member, said in an interview yesterday that they are reviewing Mwase’s performance before coming up with a decision on whether to advertise  the post.

He said the process is at an advanced stage and that the board will “soon make a decision on Mwase’s fate”.

Mwase: They are better-placed to comment

A source at the club claimed that Mwase was given a target to finish top of the league in the first round and, at least, reach the final of the FDH Bank Cup.

But the Nomads are out of the FDH Bank Cup and second in the first round with 28 points, nine adrift of leaders Silver Strikers.

On whether the board is satisfied with the coach’s performance, having missed the  targets, Somba Banda was elusive and could only say: “We have set milestones as a club.”

In his interim capacity, Mwase won five matches in the league against Baka City (0-2), Chitipa United (2-0), Tigers (1-2), Civil Service United (3-0), PremierBet Dedza Dynamos (3-1), but dropped points in a goalless draw against Mafco FC and registered a 1-2 loss to Moyale Barracks.

In FDH Bank Cup, he sailed through to the round of 16 after knocking out Cobbe Barracks following a 3-0 victory.

However, a 2-1 loss to rivals FCB Nyasa Bullets denied the Nomads yet another chance to win the cup for the first time.

On his part, Mwase said he will leave to the board and management to decide.

“I feel they are in a better position to comment. If anything I can only react to their decision,” he said in an interview yesterday.

In a related development, Creck Sporting Club have asked suspended coach MacDonald Mtetemera to submit a report on his performance.

The TNM Super League rookies on July 18 slapped Mtetemera with a two-week suspension due to poor performance, pending disciplinary hearing.

In an interview yesterday, Creck board chairperson Muhammad Seleman said the report from the coach will be the basis for a decision on his future.

He said: “We are yet to decide on his fate, but we will do accordingly. We have asked the head coach to submit a report on the matches he was in charge of at the club. The report will act as a basis for our decision.

“This is in line with his contract of employment he signed with the club. The report is expected to be submitted latest the 9th of August, 2024. We want to have a fair assessment of his performance and let him know his fate before it is too late.”

However, since the suspension period has elapsed, Seleman said they will consult their legal adviser on the matter.

“I know the law allows extension of a suspension period if things have not been finalised. We will consult our legal advisor on the way forward,” he said.

Mtetemera in an interview confirmed being asked to submit a report but refused to comment further.

In the absence of Mtetemera, interim coach Joseph Kamwendo led the team in the last two first-round matches.

He beat Dedza Dynamos 2-0 and held Kamuzu Barracks 2-2 to finish on position six, but was knocked out of the FDH Bank Cup by Baka City FC after losing 1-0.
