Be Forward Wanderers have resolved to release eight players as part of a drive to reduce the club’s wage bill.

The development follows a meeting attended by the club’s executive, technical and supporters’ main committees.

While confirming the development yesterday, club general secretary (GS) Mike Butao kept a tight lid on the identities of the players.

However, The Nation has established that the players include strikers Peter Wadabwa, Julius Kajembe, Jaffalie Chande and Khumbo Ng’ambi and veteran defender Harry Nyirenda.

He said: “Following a thorough assessment and consultative process, it was agreed that we should release about eight players.

“Some of the factors that were being considered were discipline, performance and age. Then we also looked at players whose contracts have either run out or are due for expiry.

“There were some whose contracts are running out, but we could extend their deals because we cannot afford what they were demanding.”

The team’s technical director Yasin Osman confirmed that the meeting took place.

“In fact, we assessed all the players and in the end resolutions were made on which players to maintain and which ones to release,” he said.

The Nomads monthly wage bill is said to be in excess of K13 million.

Last season, the Nomads finished second in the 16-team TNM Super League, won the Fisd Challenge Cup, lost in thr finals of the Carlsberg Cup and were booted out in the semis of the Airtel Top 8.
