Non-leaguers warn giants

Non-leaguers Complex Madrid of Zomba and Ng’onga FC of Rumphi have warned that they will make miracles as they face giants in the Presidential Initiative on Sports national phase second round on Saturday.

Madrid face Super League champions Silver Strikers in Zomba while Ng’onga host Bullets at Mzuzu Stadium.

Madrid coach Harrison Chiunda fired the warning shot in an interview on Monday, saying his charges are eagerly awaiting the Lilongwe giants in the old capital.

“Ours is a youthful squad, but has got players capable of turning the screw in our favour. We have played a number of friendly games in preparation for this game and we are ready,” said Chiunda.

The team has been bolstered by some players who were playing for last season’s relegated Super League side Zomba United such as striker Stanley Mhango, defenders Alick Kaomba, Innocent Mussa, Limbani Mussa and winger Steven Paundi.

On the other hand, Ng’onga chairperson Mulinda Mkandawire said his team will beat Bullets.

“Much as I know that most of my players support Bullets and admire their players, we will come full-force. We will not give them respect on the ground. They will have to sweat for a win.

“It is an honour for a team such as ours to play Bullets, but it will carry more weight if we win,” he said.

The two games are among 15 set for Saturday.
