NRWB embarks on climate resilience project in Nkhata Bay
Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) with support from the African Development Bank through Catchment Based Climate Resilience Project has trained communities to conserve river catchments in their areas.
Speaking on Tuesday at Chilerawana in Nkhata Bay, NRWB community mobilisation and training manager Gerald Ngulube said well protected catchment areas will lead to sustainable potable water provision in the district.

He said: “These agricultural interventions would assist communities living along Nkhata River catchment to observe soil and water conservation practices so that we have clean water in the lake especially close to where NRWB abstracts water.”
Under the project, which is also running in Rumphi and Chitipa districts, NRWB is providing 158 000 community members with fruit seedlings to be planted along river buffer zones for both soil conservation and economic gains for households.
Nkhata Bay land officer Davison Kaonga said land degradation is rampant in the district; hence, the need for such interventions.
