The National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) will on September 21 elect new office bearers during its annual general meeting in Salima.

In an interview, chairperson of the organising committee MacArthur Matukuta said apart from electing new executive members, delegates will also review the association’s constitution.

Vying for the post of secretary general: Mulindiwa

He said: “Currently our constitution is silent when it comes to group membership. We also want to have clear guidelines as to what happens when one’s tenure of office expires but the group delays to hold new elections. As it stands, our constitution is silent on these matters.”

Matukuta said vacant positions include those of president, vice-president, secretary general, vice-secretary general, treasurer, publicity secretary and vice-publicity secretary.

For the position of president Max DC Chiphinga is up against Edwin Chonde while Beauty Fologonya will contest against Sam Sambo and Moses Chirambo for vice-president. Benard Gondwe, Philmon Kuipa and Mildred Mulindiwa will battle it out for the post of secretary general while Shadreck Jumaina may go unopposed for the position of treasurer.

Ian Evans Chisekula and Fumbani Phiri are vying for the position of publicity secretary while Gidson Chisale and Frank Mbewe are eyeing the publicity secretary position.

Matukuta said Ntam’s major challenge in the past year were the deaths of its president Eric Mabedi and board chairperson Frank Patani Mwase.
