Despite reaching into the semi-finals of the Donna’s Eggs Southern Region Women Football Tournament through the backdoor, Ntopwa Super Queens on Wednesday beat ATU Ladies 2-1 at BAT Ground to make it into the finals.

Initially, Ntopwa were booted out of the competition after losing 1-0 to King’s Ladies in the quarter-finals, but they sailed through to the semis after the latter were disqualified for featuring illegal players.

The Queens booked their ticket into the finals with goals from Wezzie Mvula and Brenda Banda.

The Ladies got the consolation through Elina Nhlane in the 25th minute.

Ntopw face defending champions Blantyre Zero in the finals on June 7, according to Southern Region Women Football Committee (SRWFC) general secretary Immaculate Chiwaya.

Zero beat Zomba City Queens 2-0 in the other semi-final to qualify for the finals for the fourth consecutive time.

Ntopwa coach Thom Kazembe told The Nation after the match that his team is geared to win its first-ever title.

“We have a strong team that will win the title. You have seen it for yourself how my girls played in this game,” said Kazembe.
