Flames striker Atusaye Nyondo grabbed his sixth South Africa Absa Premier League goal in 21 games on Sunday when guiding University of Pretoria to a 1-0 beating of Maritzburg United.
At the Tuks Stadium, Nyondo became this season’s leading Malawian scorer, ahead of Polokwane City’s Esau Kanyenda (three), Platinum Stars’ Robert Ng’ambi (three) and Frank Gabadinho Mhango of Bloemfontein Celtic (two).
South Africa media reported that Nyondo finished off a fine team goal on the seventh minute for Pretoria, who had Vuyisile Ntombayithethi sent off.

The league’s leading scorer is Zimbabwean Cuthbert Malajila on nine goals from 22 games.
The result saw Pretoria climb to seventh in the standings while United remain in 10th spot as their winless streak stretches to nine matches. Still on Sunday, Platinum Stars—minus Robert Ng’ambi who is reportedly injured—escaped the drop zone at Moroka Swallows’ expense with a 1-0 win, courtesy of Rudi Isaacs’s 42nd minute own goal at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Stars now have 21 points from 20 games while lying 14th.
In Zimbabwe, Caps United did not feature any of the three Malawian players—Gerald Phiri Jnr, George Nyirenda and Ishmael Thindwa, when they lost 1-0 to Dynamos in a Bob91 Super Cup final at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
In Mozambique, Frank Banda’s goal earned HCB Songo a 1-0 win over Chingale de Tete on Saturday’s final preparatory match ahead of the 2015 Mozambique football season.
