One for Organised Family

If you are a Malawian and you are passionate about music, then the name Organised Family is not strange to you.

The Zambian trio has Malawi imprinted all over their music story. In their own words, they claim Malawians started listening to their first album, Munsomba in 2009 before their compatriots back in Zambia.

It is for this reason and many others that the group holds Malawi as their second home. They have performed almost in all popular entertainment venues across Malawi mostly joint tours with Zembani Band. And behold, they also have a Malawian manager in Wendy Harawa.

Their songs such as Munsomba, Picture, Bopeni, Muli Nane, Chove Chove, Viwaya, and Facebook, among others have enjoyed unimaginable airplay here in Malawi. One would be excused to think that the group is based here in Malawi.

But that is all down to the efforts they have made in naturalising their name and music in Malawi. Through their tireless efforts Malawians have come to accept them as their own. It is clear both sides are benefitting from this symbiotic relationship.

The Orga Family took another step to fortify its ties with Malawians. The trio released a tourism song, Takulandirani. The composition is inspired by Malawi’s official tourism theme ‘Takulandirani’.

That stroke of selflessness could not go unrecognised by the country’s Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule. She was quick to salute the group for their composition and even went further to initiating a video production project for the song and volunteering to personally appear in the song.

There was no better way the minister would have shown her appreciation for the kindness the Zambian group has done to Malawi, especially at the peak of numerous efforts from the ministry aimed at boosting the country’s tourism muscle.

With so many developments happening around the world in the last four years, the economies of most countries are on their knees and Malawi is no exception. The tourism industry is one sector that holds an alternative card in helping keeping the economy afloat.

And here we have a group of Organised Family’s repute and stature standing up to tout our tourism potential. Maybe as Malawians we have grown too accustomed to our surroundings that we have forgotten the true value of our natural environmental gifts.

It should be our everyday song to raise awareness of what we have and it should come at no cost. Those who have the platform and know-how, let them maximise on such opportunities in selling and marketing Malawi to the world.

I think this generosity from the music group will not only be recognised by the minister, but all Malawians and that they will continue offering their support to their music endevours like they have always done during the years.

In my engagement with both Kamtukule and members of the band this week, they indicated they have already started the engagement to work on the modalities of developing the concept of the music video.

Music lovers must be pregnant with expectations to see how the minister will rock the music video as its model. She has never put one foot wrong in playing the poster face of the tourism industry. Her branding nous is always a marvel and we are sure her presence will do justice to this project.
