Saturday last week was a big day for Chilwa Reformatory Centre in Zomba when the Blantyre CCAP Synod Ministers Wives Association donated items to the centre worth K250 000 (US$625).

Principal of the institution Mardine Chirwa described the donation as Mannah from heaven.

“We had a night of prayer last evening after we had our last super. We prayed to God to help us with some food and today we see you coming with a donation. We are humbled and speechless before God,” said Chirwa.

The principal said the centre reforms juveniles by giving them vocational skills in areas such as carpentry, bricklaying, tailoring and farming.

“We also provide spiritual guidance through moral talks and services to groom them to become good citizens. In addition, we allow religious groups to come and teach our juveniles,” said Chirwa.

Chairperson of the association Shamim Gama said as mothers they know that juveniles need motherly care and love; hence, the donation.

“Our coming is to provide motherly care and love to our children here and also give them a pre-Christmas gift,” said Gama.

Alice Maulana, a member of the group, said the women came from all 18 presbyteries of the synod.

“As ministers’ wives, our role is to care for the less privileged in the Blantyre Synod. We also care for our fellow women who lost their husbands. We also reach out to people society deems as outcasts so that they should feel God’s love wherever they are,” said Maulana.

Some of the items the group donated were maize, beans, sugar and soap.
