Prof Saka is new Unima Vice-Chancellor

The University of Malawi (Unima) has announced that it has a new Vice- Chancellor Professor John Kalenga Saka who has replaced Dr. Emmanuel Fabiano.
University registrar Benedicto Wokomaatani Malunga, in his communication to principals and registrars of constituent colleges, said Saka’s appointment is with effect from December 2 2013.
“I write on behalf of council [of the University of Malawi] to inform you that Professor John Kalenga Saka is our new vice-chancellor with effect from 2nd December 2013.
“I, therefore, invite you to join me in congratulating Professor Saka for making it into the Vice-Chancellor’s office,” said Malunga in the communication dated November 26 2013.
Saka, currently chairperson of the yet-to-be opened Malawi University of Science and Technology (Must) is also academic director of the Southern African Biochemistry and Informatics for Natural Products (Sabina) network.

He studied for a PhD (Studies in 1, 2, 3 triazine chemistry) which he completed in 1985 from the University of East Anglia.
On completion of his PhD, he joined the Chemistry department at University of Malawi as a lecturer in chemistry in 1986, and was later appointed senior lecturer in chemistry in 1992 and associate professor in 1995. He became full professor in 2002.
