Fast Networks Malawi has connected five villages in Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga District to affordable Internet.

Under the project, the organisation will also provide computers to a digital committee representing the villages for use in accessing information.

Speaking in an interview on Saturday, digital committee secretary Tatiana Moyo said the affordable Internet will help the youth to be abreast with critical information such as vacancies and education opportunities.

She said: “The development will bridge the information gap that has been there for years.

“For long, the youth have been struggling to get important information such as job vacancies and education opportunities.”

The organisation has also installed free Internet at Ipyana Primary School.

The school’s head teacher John Kasimba said the free Internet will ease teaching in junior classes where learners will use tablets and iPads donated by Unlocking Talent Project early this year.

“We are living in a digital world that requires learners to move with it. The goodness is that junior and infant learners have already started using tablets and iPads,” he said.

Fast Networks co-founder Barros Mweso said in 2021 they launched their first community network at Mwandenge Village at Songwe.

“Our approach has always been that if we connect villages, then we must connect a schoo,” he said.
